Your Town Needs You!
Are you interested in your local community? Would you like to have your views heard when it comes to shaping the future of Torpoint? Why not consider becoming a Town Councillor.
Torpoint Town Council currently has a vacancy for a Town Councillor ( clink the LINK), you will need to fulfil one of the following qualifying categories: -
- registered as a local government elector for the parish;
- during the whole of the preceding twelve months occupied as owner or tenant, any land or premises in the parish;
- your principal or only place of work during the preceding twelve months has been in the parish;
- during the whole of the preceding twelve months resided in the parish or within 4.8 km of the boundary.
How much time will you need to commit?
You will ideally need to attend 12 monthly Council Meetings during the year, however there are lots of additional committees which you can join if you have extra time available. The length of the meetings varies, but usually last approximately 2 hours. All meetings are currently held virtually on Zoom.
What’s involved?
Being part of the decision-making processes during meetings, including deciding where money should be spent, what services are provided and what policies are implemented. You will have a responsibility to local constituents and organisations. This is an unpaid, voluntary position which can be challenging, but very rewarding too.
